ACADEMICS
The Department of Periodontics was started in the year 2002 along with the inception of the institution, with MDS course starting in the year 2011. The Department has also initiated add-on programs in periodontal micro surgery and lasers.
The department boasts of an ample patient flow with state-of-the-art dental diagnostic and surgical facilities for training of under graduate and post graduate students. Along with routine non surgical periodontal treatment procedures, a vast array of surgical procedures including periodontal regenerative procedures, laser and microsurgeries, hard and soft tissue augmentation, sinus lift and implant surgeries are regularly performed. Interdisciplinary cases and discussions are regularly done in the department. Also, a Department Library with adequate number of books, speciality journals, dissertations, seminars etc is present accessible both for the students & faculty. The department has a state of the art ICT enabled seminar room which enhances the education experience of the students.
The Department follows a credit based assessment system measured systematically at various intervals using reliable assessment tools. Regular group sessions and case discussions are conducted in every clinical posting where the student’s progress is continuously evaluated and given an opportunity for improvement.
The Department also encourages innovation and research in dental health care delivery in areas like newer diagnostic aids with emphasis on salivary diagnostics, immunology, periodontal plastic surgery, periodontal regeneration, periodontal medicine and local drug delivery to meet the changing dental needs of the people.
The department regularly conducts programmes in association with the Indian Society of Periodontology associated with Oral Hygiene day, Oral Health day, Professional Development programmes etc every year since its inception. The faculty also regularly attends and serve as resource persons in conferences and clinical skill development programmes conducted at the local, state and national level and also teacher training programmes to keep themselves abreast with the latest in the speciality and to improve their teaching skills.
