Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at Mar Baselios Dental College was established in 2002 with the inception of this college. The postgraduate program was started in 2011 and was recognised in the year 2014 with a yearly intake of 3 students. The department was recognised by KUHS as a PhD center in 2016. The state of the art department is well equipped with the necessary microscopes, microscopic slides, study models, soft tissue and hard tissue specimens for undergraduate training. It has separate spaces for clinical examination, student’s laboratory, department library and museum with numerous mounted specimens, models and posters.

The histopathology lab is equipped to deal with basic investigations that include routine blood tests, aspiration biopsies, exfoliative cytology, biopsies, differential staining, microbial staining etc. The lab has state of the art Penta head microscope, fluorescent microscope, polarising microscope, dark field microscope and lamina flow chamber. The department has an Immunohistochemistry Laboratory that is helpful for the diagnosis of difficult cases and is also beneficial for the research works conducted by the post graduates
