The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology was established in Mar Baselios Dental College in the year 2002 and it is the specialty of Dentistry concerned with the oral health care of medically compromised patients related to the diagnosis and non surgical management of medically related disorders or conditions affecting the oral and maxillofacial region. Staffs at the department are involved in the primary diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases that do not respond to conventional dental or maxillofacial surgical procedures. The Department is headed by eminent faculty members to provide the best available treatment modalities and the advanced academic training. The Department of Oral Medicine is spread to 8000 sq ft makes the biggest OMR department in India, with around 100 out patients daily. The Department of Radiology is well equipped with 4- IOPA X-ray machines, RVG, Analog and Digital OPG Machine, ORTHOPHOS XG-5 Lateral Ceph- Skull Unit and having an average of 60 radiographs per day. Department Of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry Caring and curing a young child is one of the most challenging tasks that a dentist faces. Pedodontics is an age defined speciality that provides primary and comprehensive, preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescene, including those with special health care needs. The department imparts a thorough knowledge of the basic sciences and advanced learning techniques in the clinical sciences through practical training that involves working on children. They also receive advanced training in all the specialized care that children demand. Students participate in community camps conducted in various schools and community centers that prepare them to render appropriate treatment. Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry at Mar Baselious Dental College offers graduate programme. This graduate course is approved by Dental Council of India. Department would be soon starting with the post graduate training course. Goals of the Department Upon completion of this course the student should be able to:- Identify and differentiate between normal and abnormal somatic dento-facial and psychological growth and development. Understand child behaviour and anxiety and be able to communicate and manage children showing apprehension and moderately disruptive behaviour using behavioural and pharmacotherapeutic techniques. Diagnose and plan appropriate therapy for common oral health problems for children. Provide treatment for mental, physical and emotionally handicapped children and also for the medically compromised patients. Recognize and manage medical emergencies commonly encountered in children and adolescent undergoing treatment. Develop a preventive program for an individual patient. Make appropriate referrals.
