UG Program

The undergraduate orthodontic training program begins in second year where in basics of orthodontic procedures and wire bending are tutored. Theory lecture classes, clinical postings, demonstrations in wire bending and small group discussions related to orthodontic diagnosis, fabrication and use of removable appliances, and case selection for fixed orthodontic treatment are imparted in the subsequent two years. Periodic evaluations of students are carried out so as to enable them to achieve competencies expected of dental graduates.

PG Program

Started of in year 2011 post graduate training  is provided in a three-year program accredited by the Dental Council of India. The course is designed to prepare students for a career in research and practice in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics by means of seminars, journal club, case discussions, inter departmental meetings, and patient care. In addition to that the students are encouraged to take under graduate classes and conduct field visits to educate the masses and to survey various dentofacial problems. Post graduate program has been recognised by DCI and affiliated to KUHS.

Treatment Modalities

  • Growth modification by using various functional & Orthopaedic appliances.
  • Removable appliance including habit breaking and oral muscle training appliance.
  • Fixed appliance correction with Beggs and various prescriptions of preadjusted edge wise appliance including Roth, MBT, Alexander, Tip edge, Self ligating, Lingual techniques including incognito, Clear aliner including invisaline etc
  • Adjunctive orthodontic procedures in association with dept. of Oral surgery, Periodontics, Pedodontics, Prosthodontics, conservative dentistry etc.

  • Validity of cephalometric predictions using software with manual prediction on the orthognathic surgical procedures of maxillary Lefort I osteotomy with anterior maxillary osteotomy and genioplasty – Comparative study.
  • Comparison of stability of surgical mini-screws with orthodontic implants as an anchor unit-An in vivo study
  • An assessment of efficacy of the supercusp , a myofuctional  corrector and the twin block appliance in class II division I malocclusion .
  • Evaluation of alignment efficacy of super elastic Co axial Nickel titanium verses Copper – Nickel titanium arch wires –An In-vivo study
  • Comparison of mechanical properties of orthodontic  wires following topical fluoride application – An Invitro study
  • An assessment of co relation between dermatoglyphic patterns and sagittal skeletal discripencies.
  • Cephalometric evaluation of Nasal morphology and its variations in different malocclusions in Kerala population.
  • Applicability of Bolton’s ratio in Kerala population.
  • Comparison of Nasolabial  changes following Lefort I ostetomy and Lefort I with anterior maxillary osteotomy in maxillary vertical and sagittal excess cases – A retrospective study.
  • Evaluation of the soft tissue in non growing individuals with different facial pattern  -cephalometric study
  • Comparison of frictional resistance of preadjusted edgewise esthetic brackets: monocrystalline, ceramic with metal slot and conventional ceramic bracket - An in-vitro study.
